April 11, 2010 the Gabriola Lions responded to an invitation from Gabriola Land & Trails Trust (GaLTT) to help clear out the pesky broom from the Beautiful Drumbeg Park by the sea. Two hours and many sore backs later the result was impressive. Seventeen Lions, and spouses, and members of GaLTT used hands and tools to rid the park of the huge forrest of this invasive and destructive plant.
Not a crap game - only picking out the tiny seedlings of broom before they can reproduce
Wrenching and cutting out the larger ones
Dixon Kenny getting to the root of the problem
The crew, defying sore backs and muscles
The result - a cleared patch. Just look what broom does to everything else trying to grow!
