Open House!

On 8 May 2017 we hosted an open house for our community to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Lions Clubs International and the 42nd Anniversary of the Gabriola Lions Club. Over 100 people attended.

End of Year BBQ

On 26 June 2017 the club held it's annual End of Year BBQ to celebrate our last meeting of fiscal year 2016-2017. Lions Ken and Shirley Nicolson once again offered their beautiful garden as the venue. Thank you Ken and Shirley!

Lions Walk for Dog Guides

Lions Larry and Sharon and pooches getting ready for the walk.

The weather cooperated to make this years dog walk fun for all. A very special thank you for the tremendous support from Lions Merrilee Wur, Mariam Cochrane, and Joan Ensor as registrars and Lions Sharon and Larry for set up. Our Lions President Betsy Banford greeted all the dog walkers and furry friends and thanked them for their participation . It was also good to see so many Lion members in attendance. There were 22 registered walkers. Several walkers had more than one dog to walk and all was done so quickly with many dogs happily participating in the final play at the ocean’s shore.

We raised $930.00. A very special thank you to the Gabriola Community for making this such a worthwhile event. Thank you to Linda Olsen for initiating this event. More info on the dog walk: HERE. (photo: Lion Jude Briscoe)

Huxley Park Lions Crest

On 21 December, 2017 Hector Banford installed the Lions crest on the Huxley Park sign in recognition for the club's $12,000 donation for park renovations and playground equipment.

Youth Exchange Program 2017

Our YEP participants this year are Jethro and Emily, shown here with our YEP Coordinator Lion Sharon. Jethro is going to England for a month and Emily will spend a month in Greece. The club looks forward to hearing about their travels when they get back.

On December 11, 2017 President Betsy presented a Lions Certificate of Appreciation to Norm Nestie, owner of Gabriola Optical, for his support of our Lions Recycle for Sight Program. Norm collects used eyeglasses for us and we ship them to the Lions Canadian Collection Centre where eyeglasses are recycled and distributed internationally to people in need.
